BIO
John Lyons is an artist, freelance filmmaker & photographer who works with first-source photography, sound & film. His practice is concerned with societal inequalities and power structures using photography, moving image and sound to engage with the subject matter in a direct style borrowing elements from documentary and film. Both digital and analogue mediums are used to record sound and images capturing vignettes of life.
The direct concerns of their work observe social fragilities in an environment of constant extraction, change and inequality where people can feel exhausted and overwhelmed. These themes express themselves in a playful yet engaging way through photography, sound and film. Folklore, local & traditional knowledge, tacit learning and other forms of direct communication deeply inform their practice.
